Luckily
we have a solution, especially for those in their retirement.
Lawn
bowls is a sport that offers companionship, excitement, gentle
exercise, and is
affordable and can be played as an individual and still be part
of a team.
In a season that lasts from April to September, on an outdoor
rink most games
last about three hours with a break for tea and biscuits halfway
through.
It's perfectly suited to the summer months offering a chance
to be in the
fresh air, in a pleasant environment.
By joining a club you take advantage of all their facilities
all through the
summer.
Matches are mostly arranged in the afternoons, being played
against other
club teams in a league format or as a friendly. Most clubs have
a Ladies and
a Men's section for these events. However, nowadays many more
friendly
matches are played with mixed men's and ladies teams. Although
the league
matches are competitive you always find an underlying friendly
spirit. Both
new and established bowlers need to practice and they do so
in the mornings.
So for all, there is plenty of free time in a bowling club to
hone your skill
and become a better player.
During the summer, clubs arrange matches with each other in
a format that
allows bowlers to visit and host each other. St. Mary's hosts
many touring
teams from all parts of the UK on a regular basis.
A regular varied social programme is also offered. Club nights,
where
everyone is mixed together in an informal roll-up followed by
supper, or in
the winter months there are entertainment evenings with various
themes.
We pride ourselves in St. Mary's in welcoming new and experienced
bowlers to
our friendly club. Expert tuition and equipment use is available
to all and
novices soon find they are playing to a much higher standard
than they would
ever have believed.
We would love to hear from you.
