Shoalstone Pool

Getting ready for a seasonal swim

Having monitored and carried out light repairs throughout the winter, the team of volunteers worked hard in the week running up to the Saturday May 26th to get everything finished for this year's opening of Shoalstone Pool.

Fortunately glorious weather aided the volunteers and Chairman of the Friends of Shoalstone Pool Rowan Molesworth said, “This year we were given a fantastic helping hand by the Devon and Cornwall Probation Service Community Workers under their team leader Barry”. He also said, “A big thank you to all of the volunteers for all their hard work to get the pool ready in time.”

Extensive work had to be undertaken this year to render all along one side of the pool before the paint was applied. This should mean the Pool requires less maintenance for a while and allow the team to concentrate next year on working on the valve which regulates the sea water.

Other jobs such as fixing the railings and ladders were done in time for the tide to fill the Pool on Friday although at this time of the year they are not high enough to completely fill the pool. Nevertheless the volunteers, who include some of the lifeguards employed by Torbay Council for the season, helped top up the Pool to ensure a depth suitable for all those set to enjoy a swim on bank Holiday week end.
