‘Shiver me timbers', all day long!

Despite being a damp and murky day, many gathered at the Christian Community Centre in Fore St on Thursday 25th October, to join the Brixham Buccaneers in some pirating fun.

Inside the hall Pirate Les made balloon monkeys and swords, whilst story telling and sing along session had families listening to pirate adventures.

Throughout the day many children created artwork and entered the pirate colouring competition, as members of the Buccaneers took their turn to be pelted in the stocks.

Picking a winner for the Pirate Hunt Prize Draw

Out in the town the Buccaneers organized the Brixham Family Pirate Hunt encouraging many to take to the streets with a map and some clues. The generous prize of a Friday /Saturday break donated by Churston Way Lodge was drawn from the entries of the most observant competitors able to locate all 12 of the hidden mini pirates. Brixham Heritage Museum, also donated free entry to the Museum for children accompanying a paying adult when competitors handed in their entries there.

The Pirates Day would not have been complete without its Treasure Hunt, which involved a large group leave the Community Centre to follow clues down through the town to the harbour. The clues arranged by the Greenway Quay Ferry Company also gave entrants time to stop off at Efk Fudge to make a tasty new brand of ‘Brixham Pirate Fudge', before the group managed to locate the hidden treasure chest on a boat at the Quayside. Back at the Community centre the treasure, generously donated by the Greenway Ferry Company, was divided up amongst the children involved in the Hunt, whilst the day concluded with a costume parade of eager young pirates, keen to be voted best dressed pirate of the day!
