Going, going, gone!
This year The Lifeboat
Open Day held down at the Marina gave local people and visitors
a chance to catch up with the Brixham Lifeboat Guild, the Torbay
Lifeboats and crew, as they hosted a range of fun activities,
many contributing to raising funds for this vital community
service and sharing sea safety advice. |

Bidding
for cakes donated by Torbay Lifeboat crew was a lively affair
as Ron Campion expertly auctioned off their personally hand
baked creations. Many were cleverly modelled and iced on the
theme of the lifeboat, crew and their station. As the only female
crew member Angela Morris made a large landscape of the Lifeboat's
location at Breakwater which gained her the cup for the best
entry and sold at auction for £21. It went to a family
group who turned out to be keen ‘collectors of cakes' as they
purchased several of the lots! |

| The Raft Race also proved to be entertaining
as teams including the Lifeboat crew, the Lifeboat Operations
Team, Sea Anglers, Coastguards, Firemen and Police teams finished
racing and concluded with a messy battle, as Coxswain Mark Criddle
hosed down the sea anglers and they retaliated with handfuls of
flour! With the senior members of the Station - the Operations
Team - winning the race! Ron Campion stepped up to the microphone
to receive the trophy and announced the prizes for the games which
raised £43 towards the funds, whilst the raffle contributed
£147. The total raised from all activities was close to
£300 an excellent result. |

| As
well as fun and games people were able to get up close to the
more serious side of the crew members work with a chance to
look around the All Weather Torbay Lifeboat and see demonstrations
by the Inshore Lifeboat. Last year the crew members attended
136 ‘Shouts', whilst this year 80 call outs have been attended
before the height of the holiday season has really got underway!
The day also gave
younger members of the public a chance to look at the equipment
and talk to crew members, with Thomas wearing items usually
worn by his father when on duty. |
