Fun Day Rebooted
The Fun Day returned
to Furzeham Green last Saturday with HYPA -Helping Young People
Achieve getting extremely active and thwarting the showery weather.
Planned by members
of HYPA the Fun Day Rebooted was also made possible by their
successful funding bid to the Lottery Play Fund securing them
enough money to host this day of free event s for local young
people. Zac Ward member of HYPA said, “With the £15,000
we have been able to provide this event and do it all again
next year!” |

Angela
Neil who is the adult responsible for supporting HYPA's decision
making and organizational work said, “The day planned by HYPA
meets the criteria of the grant which aims to promote free play
for everyone whatever their age, and that's why today we have
activities to appeal to the very small through to teenagers.”

Members of HYPA showed their total commitment to providing for
other young people in the community arriving on site from 8am
setting up for the start at 2pm. They were undaunted by the weather
during the morning as they hoisted the tents for the barbeque
and activities, then set the stage for the live music. |
 |
|
Now owning these tents, HYPA have a resource
for others in the community to use, and in their ‘Krew' T Shirts
the team were on hand throughout the afternoon and early evening,
as over 2000 people ventured round the attractions. Families
were not fazed by the passing showers which saw them take to
the tents and try their hand at craft work, face painting, or
enjoy free bowls full of fruit and very cheap burgers! |

Around the Green Sure Start offered toys and games for the very
young to enjoy, whilst JFB Entertainments providing a range of
inflatable games also enjoyed by many teenagers present. For the
more adventurous the Warehouse at Tiverton had set up a climbing
wall, with clay pigeon shooting seeing the adults having a go,
the popular trampolines well used, and Donkey Dayz providing countless
rides. |
|
|
Indeed everything was free, bar some of the
food, much to the amazement of many of the parents! Leah's Mom
said, “We queued for the donkeys to find they were also free!”

For those wishing to be expressive graffiti artist Stuart Taylor
saw many contribute to the boards that became his version of the
word ‘Hyper'. His company work with many people helping them to
learn to be creative legally, as this art form is illegal when
painted on community property. www.graffitiworkshop.co.uk

With their own staging and under an inflatable
roof the bands were able to play on throughout the day with
Colin and Pete playing the Blues, Thin Line Groove singing classics
like “Who Shot the Sheriff“ and Tweakfreaks offering other memorable
covers and their own material such as ‘Friends'. For those who
like to sing themselves the Karaoke set up allowed many to have
a go. With the community police keen to support the event they
were on hand to answer questions and watch as families enjoyed
a great day out for free. |

something like this,” and Tiger Shane agreed that he had enjoyed
everything especially the donkeys!
