Brixham and Beyond
With books readily
available on the history of Brixham showing photos of days gone
by, a more up to date collection of pictures reflecting the
town, port and surrounding areas seemed to be lacking. |

Inspired to redress this situation, the five semi-retired ladies,
Pam, Joan, Anne, Wendy and Lorraine, who run the Cards and More
shop in Brixham, decided to engage a local photographer to capture
more familiar scenes people are likely to find here in the 21st
century. |

After '30-something
years' as a professional photographer, Sarah Anne Harvey was
thrilled to have the opportunity to not only take the stunning
photos, but to be given the chance to arrange the images in
the book.

Containing
many fabulous views, scenes of the fishing industry, leisure
pursuits, and familiar landmarks, the team who created it were
keen to show to both tourists and residents alike, that Brixham
in 2008 is more than a ‘quaint fishing town'. As the ‘beyond'
suggests, a short section at the end does capture scenes from
around the Bay, although the majority of the book with its compact
and informative text, highlights Brixham today.
The book is dedicated
to the late Dr Dymoke Jowitt, in appreciation of his endeavours
to preserve Brixham Hospital and improve the healthcare facilities
of Brixham. Following the launch on March 25th at the Christian
Community Centre, Fore Street from 10am - 12pm, the book will
be available from Cards & More, Brix-Boox or the Tourist
Information Office, with a recommended retail price of £9.99.
