The presentation of the winning trophies for Trawler Race Day was introduced by Miriam Pynn. Joining her for the occasion was Captain Paul Pitcher from HMS Tyne who was supposed to be present at the event on his ship. Unfortunately the ship broke down so it was taken into Falmouth, but undeterred he arrived by car to monitor the Race from the All Weather Lifeboat.

With Miriam Pynn's last Trawler Race as Chairman she said "It's been a really great day with 3-4000 people attending. The weather held and the boat owners enjoyed themselves."

This year Trawler Race Day was a big success with the public. The Brixham Merchant Navy Staff Band performed and there was an abundance of stalls and events to keep the whole family entertained, with the smell of food to tempt the taste buds.

The Quay Festival display area also included the charity stalls of the Lion's Club, R.S.P.C.A., R.N.L.I. and not forgetting the Fishermen's Mission with items to buy, raffle tickets available, and toys to win. The Soroptimist International of Brixham provided a cake stall and hot drinks, with the Furzeham out of School Club Raffle, and the St John's Ambulance and the Fire Brigade also present.

On display were Arts and Crafts from some of The Brixham Shoal of Artists with Nicky and her amusing artworks, Monica Gamble and her seascapes, and Chris Slack with his stunning local photos, to admire and purchase.

The entertainment provided by Jungle Jim and his live Jungle Puppets was a big hit with everyone as the Puppets talked to the children and they even tried to blow up balloons . There was also plenty of painted faces drifting around!

Audrey Taylor from the Soroptimist International of Brixham handed Len Scott from the Fishermen's Mission a cheque for £240 with half of the monies raised from a recent Party organised by Gullivers Cafe and The Crown and Anchor. There was also £120 each for The Devon Air Ambulance and the Foundation for the study of Infant Deaths.

Miriam concluded that conditions were good and the race was a success saying, "There was no trouble at all except a few wind surfers that got in the way, and we hope to raise lots of money for lots of charities on Friday September 7th!"
