Autumn Glory
After its outstanding summer show in
August, Brixham Horticultural Society took time last week to
reflect on the quality of entries on display at their Autumn
Flower Show.

The
show based at the Scala Hall on 24th and 25th of October offered
members and non members a wide range of sections to enter flower,
plant and floral arrangements, with opportunities to show vegetables,
home made cakes, preserves and more diverse arts and crafts
pieces.
This year June Marshall,
having entered many exhibits throughout the show, saw her efforts
rewarded with several of the Society's cups and the trophy for
most points in show. June's entries included a first in the
flower arranging section for her interpretation of the theme
of ‘Autumn Glory', and she was extremely pleased that her painting
'Lilies' and ceramic leaf dish were well received by the judges.

Meanwhile
Mrs. Anna Baxter collected the Torbay Garden Centre Perpetual
Trophy for her exquisite succulents and cacti entries, and Mr.
G Mallet was awarded the Chrysanthemum Cup recognizing his expertise
and ability to keep producing stunning blooms. For those who
know their onions Mr. Jack Eveleigh picked up a first for 3
sizeable specimens, whilst Mr. W R Nickson produced the heaviest
marrow in show. |

The
event was also the last opportunity for Chairman of the Society
Mrs. Joan Roberts to take part in presenting the awards as she
will be leaving this area soon. As a long standing and dedicated
member of the Society, Joan was the Society's Secretary for
14 years and took on the role of Chairman in the last three
years. The position of acting Chairman will now pass to John
Smith, presently Vice Chairman, until the next AGM in February
when a new Chairman can be elected.
