Travel Trail's Trio Success

Chestnut Primary School at Brixham is celebrating the achievements of three brothers who all won prizes in a recent competition organised by Torbay Council's School Travel Team.

Winners receive their prizes from Elizabeth

Elizabeth Scott from Torbay Council came to the school on Friday 29th July to present the three winners with a WHSmith gift card, a certificate of achievement, a laminated copy of their poster and a bag of road safety goodies.

She explained how the School Travel Team produces a newsletter each term called the Travel Trail, which gives information to pupils on school travel and traffic issues. With the Travel Team wanting to encourage children to find alternative ways to the get to school, in a recent competition they asked children to draw a picture or design a poster to promote walking or cycling to school.

Winners Luke, Conor and Milo each designed a poster and entered the competition separately with their drawings proving to be so good that they were each awarded prizes.

Cabinet Member Cllr Chris Lewis said: "Many congratulations to Luke, Conor and Milo and, indeed to everyone who took part in the competition. We are very keen to encourage children and their parents to think of ways they can get to school other than by car.”

Cllr Christine Scouler, Children's Champion for Healthy Outcomes, said, “Every child counts and we aim to provide every child with the best start to life. Initiatives such as this encourage children to be health conscious and to take care of the environment."
