Trail Artists
Over
30 artists are exhibiting in this years TRAIL exhibition of
recycled art from Teignmouth to Dawlish Warren. Arts writer,
Alison Sumner, who praised the artists for their innovative
approach, opened the exhibition in pouring rain last Saturday
on Teignmouth Prom. |
|
Despite the weather
the launch party was held at Teignmouth Today with musical entertainment
from Ben Beeson and Ben Yates, who created the sculpture EO, based
on a giant musical instrument, built from galvanised steel and
aluminium ducting. |

|
This
year the trail includes work from two groups, ACE (Access to
Community Education) a group of physically disabled people based
at Brixham Community College and Stallcombe House, a community
home for people with learning disabilities.
|
|
These
groups rarely get the opportunity to exhibit work publicly and
the experience has been very positive for all concerned giving
them the chance to show their abilities within a professional
arts group.
|
|
Other pieces build on the theme of
the seaside and the beach with Petra Turner's eye-catching deckchair
called 'Vibrancy' painted pink to represent sticks of seaside
rock with messages at the ends of them, blowing inside out with
the typical summer windy weather. |
|
Whilst
Jane Jeffs has created a blue seahorse, which rises from the
flowerbeds made from papier mache (recycled newspapers). |
|
The
show will be on view throughout the summer until the children
return to school. A further exhibition opens in the Ice Factory
and Tomorrow's Teignmouth building in Somerset Place from August
13 th Aug until Sunday 3rd Sept, 10am-5pm daily. All exhibits
are available for purchase. |

This press release is from Jenny
Harriman, one of the Brixham Artists involved in TRAIL - they
are Phil Dixon, Becky Shaw, Jenny Harriman and the ACE group.
There is no similar opportunity to work on such a large scale
in Torbay at present. Press coverage may change this, especially
as Torbay Council currently has its Arts strategy out for consultation.
