Summer
Show for the Brixham Society of Art |

|
The
Brixham Society of Art opened its annual exhibition at 10am
on Saturday 5th August and within half an hour paintings had
been sold!
Over
the next two weeks, the Scala Hall provides the surroundings
for the Society’s show, which features around 250 entries
from 80 artists, with the work displayed in three categories.

|
With a cup for the winner of each category and
two Highly Commended certificates for the runners up, this year’s
judge was Councillor Alan Craig. Chairman of the Society Alan
Quarmby said that each year someone is invited to make the selection
to ensure a variety of winners. Fortunately the show also allows
the public to decide on its own favourites and purchase them.
Pictured here are a few of the exhibits.

The range of paintings includes many
seascapes and inspired views in and around Brixham. There is also
a sprinkling of other subjects such as flora and fauna that have
captured the artists’ attention. The exhibition is open
daily from 10- 8pm up until August 19th and paintings can be purchased
and taken away.

| The Society, which formed
in 1947, is still going strong with a membership fluctuating at
around 150. They meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at Galmpton
C of E Primary School at 7.30pm. Most months there is a demonstration
of materials and techniques promoting all styles except during
the AGM in March. The Group will not meet during September due
to holidays, so sessions will start again on the 19th October,
to which all those who would like to join the Society are welcome
to attend. |
