Living
by the Sea |
| Devon
born, Monica is a self taught painter. Of all painting media
she prefers to work with oils to produce her chosen effect.
Her work has a naive realistic quality to it and by her own
admission she loves trying to capture both the seas and the
skies. "The trouble is, neither of them stays still long enough
to be able to capture them!" She says with a wry smile. Her
philosophy is, a painting should either please the eye or the
soul, or evoke a feeling of nostalgia - those are the only real
criteria on which to base a purchase! |
| She says,
"Amongst my earliest recollections is one of being lost in
a corn field. We lived on a farm in Devon and on this day I remember
feeling happy - the sky was a pale cornflower blue, the sun a
warm brilliant light, the waving corn above my head was golden
as I took my faltering steps with arms out stretched --- then
some adult lent over me from behind and rudely raised me by my
armpits --- I was little more than a year old! This is my earliest
memory of colour playing a part in my life. |
 |
| Having
lived and worked in many countries around the world during her
professional life, Monica considers herself lucky to able to
live and paint in her native county but, especially in Brixham
where there are so many wonderful subjects to capture. She can
often be found around the Harbourside painting, talking to the
locals or fending off the seagulls!!

| "How
generous of the Brixham Yacht Club to allow me to exhibit there
- the first time they have ever held such an event" she says,
"The views are spectacular and I really do appreciate this marvelous
opportunity to use their venue. As a good will gesture, a percentage
of the proceeds will be donated to the R.N.L.I." Monica
will be paining in situ and will be available to discuss commissions.
