Exhibition at Brixham Adult & Community Learning Centre.

There is a double creative opportunity available at Brixham Adult and Community Learning centre right now.

Firstly, tutor Petra Turner is exhibiting a selection of her textile art in which she uses different processes combined with recycled materials. Her work is on display all along the corridor of the centre.

ACE Textiles for TRAIL 2009

Petra who graduated from the University of Plymouth in the late 1990's specialises in using recycled materials in her arts practise and has had many exhibitions from Cornwall to Salisbury and has sold her work all over the world.

She has exhibited with TRAIL since its conception and last year her class made a deckchair sling from discarded plastic carrier bags and sculpture like seagulls from drinking water bottles.

Secondly, if you feel inspired by the work on show you too can have a go at creating your own unique works of art using recycled materials by enrolling in a free taster course called Nifty Thrifty.

This is a free funded course thanks to Devon Community Learning Partnership.

It runs for 5 weeks starting on

Monday February 22nd from 7 to 9pm.

Petra is tutor on this course which she says was inspired by Kirsty Allsops recent “Handmade” programmes where Kirsty was working alongside local craftsmen and women producing beautiful unique pieces for the house she was renovating in Devon .

She says, “There are so many skills and processes that when applied to mixed media can produce amazing work which can cost very little to produce. Sometimes the only real outlay is having a bit of quality time to switch off your brain chatter, and use your hands and eyes which is therapeutic, relaxing and rewarding especially when you are creating something unique”.
