Chris Slack- Capturing the event

One Saturday in March as England got set to experience a lunar eclipse, Chris Slack took to his garden for two hours to record the event on film.

He then produced a picture using digital layering to capture the changing phases of the moon in one image. The resulting picture shown here Chris explained started at 10.30pm, and then a sequence of shots was taken up until midnight using a tripod.

Local photographer Chris has been capturing scenes in and around Brixham for the last 15 years, and more recently created his own website to display his array of breath taking views and familiar features of Bay life, www.chrisslack.com .

He says that it is the weather that inspires him to go out and visit familiar locations to capture them in a new light. "I love storms and I particularly liked photographing at the Breakwater when it was the tail end of Hurricane Gordon." The scenes of crashing waves certainly capture the mood of stormy winter days in the Bay. Also the time of day often sets the agenda as he enjoys recording the changing light on the same landscape. This has led to Chris recently focusing more on panoramic views creating large photographs, 19"long. These are popular and like most of his work looks great framed. Now as a member of the Shoal of Brixham Artists he can be found with his work down on the quayside underneath the Old Fish Market every Saturday from 31st March throughout the season.

Chris also has many photographs on display capturing moments at local events such as the Tall Ships visits, the Torbay Lifeboat Search and Rescue Day, and the Trawler Races. He also enjoys being creative with digital photography and has recently done a montage of sailing vessels around the lighthouse reflecting 'the spirit of the harbour', and the vessels that use it daily.
