Art
at Kents Cavern
Thanks to funding from
the Learning Revolution 12 people were able to visit Kents Cavern
to use watercolour and acrylic paints to capture the beauty
of the caves. Tutor John Turk introduced cave art from the primitive
to artists who had tried to capture the beauty and vivacity
of this style of painting. The course consisted of two sessions
of three hours on two consecutive days. |
|
Initially
Nick Powe, the owner of the cavern, provided an official tour
of the caves before people settled down to work. Nick joined
in the classes and used the event as an opportunity to promote
the Torbay Geopark giving an insight into the geological importance
of this area and encouraging participants to help as volunteers
to promote understanding of the first urban Geopark in the world.

|
The completed art work
will be on show alongside the creative writing booklet and the
photographs taken on the other tasters. It is hoped that this
exhibition will be on show at the prime Geopark sites – Cockington,
Drakes House at Goodrington, Occombe Farm and Berry Head. |
 |
A photographic competition
is about to be launched encouraging people to take photographs
of prime geological sites around the Bay and this road show
will help promote it.
All participants will
be encouraged to help with future Geopark walks and talks as
volunteers. |
