'All Things Bright' at Coleton Fishacre

Invited to exhibit her work at Colerton Fishacre, Susan Elizabeth Smith has an impressive display of 50 pieces in one room all of which live up to the title of the exhibition with their bold colours. With flora being the main theme, the delicate imagery draw includes wildlife superbly executed in these highly illustrative paintings and pencil crayon works.

Susan says about her work and the exhibition..

I can't think of anything more relaxing than sitting at my desk in the middle of a piece of work that is just starting to come together , with some pleasant music playing in the background, my dog at my feet, a freshly made cup of tea, a bag of aniseed balls and no other sounds or distractions.

Toucan

I have enjoyed painting in every decade of my life so far, and can't think that it will change. Four years at college gave me the opportunity to choose an area of art I wished to pursue and I was spoilt for choice. Apart from all the technical drawing and the advertising I have been involved in, I guess private commission and gallery work have been the most successful. Painting in a wide range of mediums and covering all sorts of subjects such as vintage sports and high performance cars, bikes , boats and race horses, chickens, parrots, pets and portraits, I had never actually painted a collection of flowers and plants. So here we are! And I've enjoyed every painting. I have always been drawn to vibrant colours, so I could paint as brightly as I wanted. Mostly photographic reference has been used and choice of subject purely random.

She goes on to say that she hopes everyone enjoys the collection and thanks Coleton Fishacre for providing the wall space for the exhibition.

Thanks also going to Barrie Adams for working hard to get all the pieces framed in time and to the friends who helped transport and hang the work.

Rose and Red Admiral

The exhibition was originally planned for a month but its run has been extended up until the 29th October allowing plenty of time to appreciate this busy local artists achievements.

With Susan taking on much commissioned work her days are filling up quickly, especially on the run up to Christmas, when work includes Christmas Cards.
